Happy Weekend! See you at the parade tomorrow!

 Dear 4th Grade Parents,

It’s been a great week!  :)  Please take a look below to get updates on upcoming events and to see what we have been “up to” in here!

*Our position for the parade on Saturday (TOMORROW!) is in front of the Blue Springs Freshmen Center, 2103 NW Vesper St., Blue Springs.  We will be  #53 in the parade.  We are not on the street, rather, in the drive in the front of the Freshmen Center.  The parade starts at 10:00 a.m.  So, if you arrive between 9:30-10:00, it should be fine!  It will take a bit to “get going!”  Parking will be at a premium, so you will have to walk a long way.  The parade ends at St. John Lalande, on the corner of Range Street and RD Mize.  Mr. Holland would recommend you park in the vicinity of  St. John, and walk to the Freshmen Center.  If you can, walk with your kiddo in the parade!  Otherwise, we will meet you at St. John’s!  Mr. Holland always bring donuts for all the kids—so make sure your 4th grader partakes in the yummy treat!  See you then!

 * Hi, Parents!  Our Walk-A-Thon is next Friday, September 24th!  Please remember to send your kiddo to school in comfy clothes, walking shoes, and with a water bottle.  If you choose to, please also help your child get those pledges or make a submissions online.  (Just visit timothy’s website,   www.timothylutheranschool.com and click on the picture of the walk-a-thon!)  Money and forms are due October 6th.  We could also use your help to assist that day and/or send in snacks for our walkers after the walk!

THANK YOU for your generosity and prayers.

*Pastor Rod led Timothy students in Chapel this Wednesday with his message of humility and grace!   He even called our 4th grade boys forward to be his examples.  :)  His message:  We are FIRST, because JESUS makes Himself LAST.  He chose to be the last sacrifice, so we could go to heaven!   Pastor Rod then challenged all of the TLS students to find ways this week to put other first!  We are blessed.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

Religion-This week, we discussed the relationship of Abram and his nephew Lot, and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, and God’s promises to Abram.  We discussed God’s Laws and His expectations of us, as well as the Good News of the Gospel—that we cannot by ourselves follow God’s Law perfectly, but JESUS did it for us!  Because if this, we get to live with him forever!

Language Arts- We read a story entitled Stormalong, a tall tale about a sailor on one of the northeast’s’ old clipper ships.  We had so much fun reading and discussing this story.  Thank you for taking to time to listen to it at home as well!  It is so very important for your child to being his or her reading book home at least once a week to review the story we are sharing in class.  This helps with retention, as well as oratory skills.  With this story, we discussed hyperboles, homophones, and discussed how to use reference materials.  In English, we learned how to use common and proper nouns.

Spelling Words for the Week of September 24th:

Story-“The Power of W.O.W.”

block, shown, oatmeal, wrote, fellow, scold, coast, odd, locate, slope, throat, host, online, shock, solve, known, remote, stock, boast, globe, bonus, approach

Challenge Word: treacherous

Math- This week, we have been working with Addition and Subtraction Properties and Rules, addition and subtraction patterns, how to add and subtract mentally, and how to estimate sums and differences.  We are on our 3’d in mad minutes!  Please keep working at home!

Social Studies- In Social Studies, we learned about the Northeast Region of the United States and completed some map skill work.

 SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- We learned what a horizon line was and studied some Expressionistic artists.  We then drew landscape drawings with a horizon line.  We will studied primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, created a color wheel with tempera paint, and then began painting in our horizon pictures with that Expressionistic style!  We will finish these up next week!  They are beautiful!

Music- This week, the students practiced songs for the parade!  They sound SO beautiful with their praises to God!  Hopefully, you will be able to come and hear them!

Writing- Many of us finished up our BioPoems and illustrated our final drafts.  The finished ones are hanging up in our school hallway for all to enjoy!

Computer Lab- This week, we began working with keyboarding, and where our fingers go on the home keys.  We are using a site called www.typing.com.  Each child has his or her own sign-n and password.  They are free to practice at home.  Please just let me know if you need this information to do so!

P.E.- We worked more on volleyball skills this week—serving and game play!

Have a blessed weekend!  I will see you tomorrow!
