We had A LOT of fun today!

Here are some pictures from the Fall Fun Fest Parade last weekend!

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

It’s been a great and BUSY week!  Thank you for all of your support and guidance.

*Our Walk-A-Thon was a success today!  THANK YOU, God, for beautiful weather and fun had by all!  THANK YOU, parents, for walking with us, keeping track of our laps, and keeping us safe.  THANK YOU for your donations and gifts of selflessness.  We are SO thankful for all of you!  We will calculate all donations after October 6th.  I do know that OUR class walked a TOTAL of 273 laps!  That is awesome!  God bless!

*Mid-terms come  home today!  This is the middle of the first quarter of school.  Can you believe it?!  Please be on the lookout for this piece of paper with your child’s midterm grades on it.  This should be in your child’s Homework Folder.  These grades are an indication of your child’s progress after the first five weeks of the grading period.  These are not the final quarter grades and are not recorded on their permanent records.  The grades are intended only to show the student’s progress at this point and to indicate areas where he or she may have to spend more time studying.  Please go over this report with your child.  Sign the bottom portion of the progress report and return it on the next class day.  Thank you!

*Our Book Fair began today!  The fair will be open before and after school (Sept 24-Oct 1), and before and after Worship on Sept. 26 and Oct. 3.  We also have an online option at www.scholastic.com/bf/tlsrams. Thank you so much for your support - all purchases benefit our school!  If you’d like to sign up to volunteer, check out the sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d4cacaf2aa5fcc61-tlsfall.

*October 6th is our annual Doughnuts With Dads.  The doors will open at 7:45 and we ask that dads leave by 7:25.  This is an opportunity for dads to hang out with their child at school, do some fun activities, and enjoy some breakfast!  If dad is working and cannot attend, a substitute is welcome to come and enjoy a LaMars’s doughnut instead.  See you there!

*Parent/Teacher conferences are coming up on October 7th and 8th.   Being the volleyball coach, I do have some conflicts, as we have games both evenings.  I am so sorry about that!  I have added some other time slots to hopefully aid you in finding a time that is suitable for your family.  This is a parent/teacher conference only, but children are welcome to hang out in the hallways during the conference.  There will some books and other materials out there to keep them busy.  Thank you!   Please use this link to sign-up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4dadab2da7f58-1stquarter1

Here is what we have been up to this week:

Religion-This week in Religion, we discussed the accounts of Abraham and the Offering of Isaac, as well as Jacob and his Dream.  We had wonderful discussions about sacrificing things for God, and giving up things that are important to us to focus on HIM.  We also talked about how as Christians, we need to lift up our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ in Jesus name.  We are actively practicing that in our classroom—although it is hard at times, we are asking the Holy Spirit to help us in this venture!  Thank you for your prayers!

Memory for Next Week:

9/28-Recite all of the OT books

 10/1-The New Testament

Matthew

Mark

Luke

John

Acts

Romans

1 & 2 Corinthians

Language Arts- We read a new genre of story this week: a play!  The play was entitled, The Power of W.O.W, which was about a group of students that worked together to help save their neighborhood bookmobile.  The students had a lot of fun collaborating and acting out this play with one another.  This week, we worked with analogies, sentence fragments, and run-on sentences.  We also discussed subjects and predicates.

Spelling Words for the Week of Friday, October 1st:

Story: “Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude”

bunch, fruit, argue, crumb, crew, tune, juice, refuse, truth, young, clue, trunk, amuse, suit, rude, trust, dew, stuck, rescue, brush, computer, mustard

Challenge Word: horrendous

Math- We have been busy in here!  We are up to our 4’s in mad minutes, and I am so proud of how hard the kiddos are working on their facts!  We are getting them memorized!  This week, we have been focusing on whole numbers—adding and subtracting them, even across zeroes.  Most of this is review, so we are going through this chapter quickly.  Next week, we will be working with multi-step word problems, and test over Chapter 2.

Social Studies- In Scholastic News, we discussed the space race, the history of Cesar Chavez, and had a discussion whether or  not there are too many holidays!  ;)   We also read all about the southeast states, and did some map work with them.

SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- We finished painting our Expressionistic paintings this week.  They are beautiful!

Music- The students are practicing songs for the Veteran’s Day program in November.

Writing- This week, we have begun writing fictional narratives.  We began the planning process today by discussing characters, settings, and problems, and how to write an engaging beginning.  We are going to have some fun with these!

Computer Lab- We worked on typing.com and really focused on those home keys!

P.E.- We completed our volleyball unit this week, by playing some serving games!

Have a blessed weekend,

Kim Brunkhorst

We attempted to take a class picture on the playground!  ;)

Busy painting our Impressionistic pictures!

Working together!
