Happy October! Happy Weekend! Go Chiefs! ;)

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

HAPPY OCTOBER!  It has been a wonderful week!  Crazy busy, as most of you would agree, but wonderful!  Our best news:  We have a new 4th grader student!  Welcome, Addley!  We are so happy that you have joined us!  It has been fun getting to know her this week, and I am so proud of our class, as they have welcomed her with open arms.  This truly is a special group of kiddos.  Thank you for sharing them with me every day!

*Monday night, October 4th--Everybody’s eating at (or from) Vito’s Original Pizza!  From 4 – 9pm, mention Timothy Lutheran School and 10% of your order will come back to TLS. Their pizza is amazing – it is what we have at school every Wednesday. However, they have lasagna, Stromboli, gyros, baklava, and lots of other yummy stuff! (I personally love their big ol’ combo pizza!)

*Thank you, again for your help with the Walk-A-Thon next week!  We are so blessed by all of you.  As a reminder:  All money is due October 6th.  Mrs. Barnett and will count money and let you know totals soon!

*October 6th is our annual Doughnuts With Dads.  This will be from 7:45-8:25.  This is an opportunity for dads to hang out with their child at school, do some fun activities, and enjoy some breakfast!  If dad is working and cannot attend, a substitute is welcome to come and enjoy a LaMars’s doughnut instead.  See you there!

*Parent/Teacher conferences are coming up next week--October 7th and 8th.   Being the volleyball coach, I do have some conflicts, as we have games both evenings.  I have added some other time slots to hopefully aid you in finding a time that is suitable for your family.  This is a parent/teacher conference only, but children are welcome to hang out in the hallways during the conference.  There will some books and other materials out there to keep them busy.  We will be discussing grades, classroom behavior, and some of their special work.  I am looking forward to visiting with each of you!  Thank you!   Please use this link to sign-up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4dadab2da7f58-1stquarter1

*The next PTL meeting is Tuesday, October 12 at 6pm here at school.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

Religion-This week, we discussed the lives of Jacob, Joseph, and Job.  The lessons focused on having a “hard knock life,” yet leaning on God to get through… That despite the circumstances, these men leaned on God, and in turn are examples for us to follow.  We had some beautiful , yet mature,  discussions about hardships, and how to face them.  We even watch the clip from the old Orphan Annie movie, and listened to the song “It’s A Hard Knock Life.”  (Then it proceeded to play in our heads ALL DAY.)  ;)  The bottom line:  God LOVES us and is ALWAYS with us.

On another note, I was SO proud of our class and how well they recited the books of the Old Testament.   We will tackle all of the New Testament books next week!

Language Arts- We read a new genre of story this week: a fractured fairytale!  It is titled, Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude.  It was one of those stories that was a blast to read, and really just gets kids on fire for reading!  They loved it!  I also found two other stories written by Kevin O’Malley that I shared with the class today!  We had some fun.  We also learned how to compare and contrast using Venn diagrams and how to make predictions.  We reviewed hyperboles.  We also discussed different types of verbs—action, helping, and linking.  We reviewed cursive letters m, n, x, q, y, and g.  We shared 4th grade Newbery book reports this week, and learned all about our next book report, where the main character is an animal.  These books should be coming home this weekend to start enjoying!

Social Studies- We’ve studied the Midwest states and learned about their economy, their climate, and their geography.  We had some fun labeling maps with states and capitals!  Next week, we will tackled the Mountain States.

Music- The students are practicing songs for the Veteran’s Day program in November.

We LOVE Miss Rathke!

Writing- This week, we continued learning about fictional narratives by learning how to use graphic organizers.  We analyzed some popular fairytales:  Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and The Three Little Pigs.

P.E.- We began soccer skills—dribbling and kicking!

 Have a blessed weekend,
