GO !

 Dear 4th Grade Parents,

Hello!  It has been a great week!  I am so proud of our kiddos, as they received praises from both of their substitute teachers, (Mrs. Krekel and Ms. MacLean), on a job well done.  It eases my mind to know that they were in wonderful hands and were so well-behaved!  My husband and I had a wonderful trip to Asheville, NC, for some of his work events.  :)

*Our PTL and Family Ministries are hosting a Harvest Party TONIGHT from 5:30 – 7:30. Invite your friends and join the fun!

*This is the end of the 1st quarter.  Report cards will come home next Friday.  I will accept make-up/re-do work through Wednesday.  Thank you for understanding.

*We are hosting the KCLAL (Kansas City Lutheran Athletic League) 7th/8th grade volleyball tournament here at Timothy TOMORROW!  Please come and cheer on our girls!  Their first game is at 8:30 am!

*Our Fall Party is going to be on October 29th, here in the classroom, at the end of the day.  We will enjoy treats, play a few classroom games (Battleship and Apples to Apples), and watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin!”

Here is what we have been up to this week:

Religion- We discussed the people of Israel and their travels through Egypt to the land of Canaan.  We talked about how they grumbled and complained and turned against God, as we do as well.  Not much has changed!  😉  ONE THING remains constant, though…God’s love for us.  Amen to that!

 Memory for Next Week:

10/26- Luther’s Morning Prayer: I thank You, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger;

10/29-and I pray You to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and; life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen.

Language Arts-  We read the story, Dear Mr. Winston, which was a story of friendly letters written by a gregarious young girl named Cara.  The letters were supposed to be an apology, but…We discussed how that was not quite so!  😉   We also talked about conjunctions and corrected sentences with conjunctions in them.  We will be learning all about Martin Luther next week!

Spelling Words for Friday, October 29th:

Martin Luther, afraid, church, knight, monk, trust, choir, shield, scare, forgiveness, indulgence, Lutheran, heaven, victory, statements

Challenge Word: Reformation

Math- We completed our unit about multiplication and division rules and properties and tested over it today.  Graded tests will come home next week.  We will begin Chapter 4 nest week, where we will learn about multiples and estimating products.

Social Studies- We learned about the western states and finished up this chapter.  We will review and test over it next week!

 SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- This week, we finished up our collages, inspired by Romare Bearden.

Music- The students are practicing songs for the Veteran’s Day program in November.  She shared with us that she got into the habit of saying this verse as a prayer at 7:14 am and 7:14 pm.

Computer Lab- We worked on www.typing.com.  Many of us are advancing quickly!

P.E.- We played Man from Mars, which is a fun game of tag!  We also enjoyed this beautiful fall weather.

Writing- We learned how to develop characters and a setting, and will soon begin our descriptive fictional writing piece!

Have a blessed weekend,

Kim Brunkhorst
