Have a blessed weekend!

 Dear 4th Grade Parents,

* We are blessed with Walk-a-thon Success!

On September 24th, all students, grades Preschool-8 participated in the 2021 Walk-a-thon.  This event raised funds to support our first quarter TLS Mission Project.

Here are some fun facts:

*2,305 Laps around the parking lot were completed.

*Teachers, parents and family members helped students stay motivated and walked with them.

*A total of $6,162 was raised!

*Funds will purchase classroom equipment.

*Mrs. Romo’s class brought in the most with $1378 and Mrs. Rathke’s class was second with $1049.

* These students had the most donations:

First Place - Heidi Hochgrebe    -  $460

Second Place – Vivian Kearney - $330

THANK YOU, to all who helped out, contributed to, and sponsored our students.  Our success is your success!  PRAISE GOD!

The TLS mission comes from Matthew 20:28, Sent to Serve.  In a world that values self-promotion and winning, we chose to share Christ’s Word and proclaim His good name. Our gifts, our talents, and our purpose are to serve others as we come together, as one body in Christ.   We could not be prouder, nor more blessed, than to witness the giving and call to serve in the TLS community.

*I will be gone Monday-Wednesday of next week.  Mrs. Ronda Krekel will be my sub.  She popped in this week to get to the know the kids a little bit.  :)  Ronda taught here for many years (second, third, and preschool), but this is one group she did not have!  She is excited!

*Our PTL and Family Ministries are hosting a Harvest Party next Friday night from 5:30 – 7:30. We are looking for volunteers to help supervise games, set up and take down, donate items, etc. Invite your friends and join the fun!

*Just a reminder:  We have a 1:00 dismissal next Friday, October 22nd.  This is the end of the 1st quarter.  Report cards will come home the following Wednesday.

 * We are privileged to be hosting the KCLAL (Kansas City Lutheran Athletic League) 7th/8th grade volleyball tournament here at Timothy on October 23rd, and we need volunteers to help out!

If you are able, please consider signing up for a time below to work one of the following:

~Donating to the Hospitality Room (for Coaches, ADs, and Principals of participating schools)

We have boasted about having the best "hospitality room" in the league, and would love your help in keeping that going! This will be a room for coaches, referees, principals, and athletic directors from our school, as well as from opposing schools, to come and relax, eat, and visit with others in between games. If you are able to do so, please sign-up to send something in for this event. We will need the items by Friday, October 22nd. Please label your dish, or send something disposable. We are need of lunch/dinner items, snacks, desserts, and drinks. Thank you so much!

It takes all of us, as a team, to ensure that this tournament runs smoothly and is loads of fun for everyone...so I thank you!  May we give God the glory!!!

*Our Fall Party is going to be on October 29th, here in the classroom, at the end of the day.  At this grade level, we truly just celebrate each other by sharing treats, playing a few classroom games (Battleship and Apples to Apples), and watching “It’s the Great Pumpkin!”  Good ol’, Chuck!  ;) We have several parents sending in amazing treats already, so, we are set, however, if you want to send in anything else, please feel free to do so.  Thank you!

Here is what we have been up to this week:

Religion- This week in Religion, we focused on the Exodus, Miriam’s beautiful song, and the giving of the Law.  We watched the movie The Prince of Egypt for our STAR party, ad discussed the similarities and the differences with actual account in the Bible.   Pastor Ryan spontaneously stopped in to play some games with my kiddos this week!

Memory for Next Week:

10/19-The old evil foe

Now means deadly woe;

Deep guile and great might

Are his dread arms in fight;

On earth is not his equal.

10/22-For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith,[a] as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” ~Romans 1:17

Language Arts-  We learned about the famous collage artist, Romare Bearden,  in this realistic fictional account of the relationship between him and his nephew, James.  Theis story was written in first-person, and we learned how to learn from context clues and how to visualize situations.  We found idioms in the story, as well as past tense verbs.

Spelling Words for Friday, October 22nd:

Story: "Dear Mr. Winston"

spark, prepare, cheer, tear, scarf, scare, repair, earring, scarce, weird, sharp, rear, spare, gear, hairy, compare, alarm, harsh, upstairs, square, weary, startle

Challenge Word: omnipresent

Math- We are on our 6’s in mad minutes!  This week, we also learned Multiplication Properties and Division Rules and the the Associative Property of Multiplication.  We are learning how to apply these skills to real-life situations.

Social Studies- We discussed the mountain states, worked with maps, and shared stories of travel there!  We learned all about ghost towns, the Continental Divide, and mining towns.

 SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- This week, we studied collages, and the works of Romare Bearden, who was the subject of our reading story this week, Me and Uncle Rome.  We created our own collages.  The only rules that we had were that a photo of us has to be in the collage, it needs to describe who we are, and we have to use at least 5 forms of media.

Music- The students are practicing songs for the Veteran’s Day program in November.  They also focused on the verse 2 Chronicles 7:14, which is a verse that is very dear to our music teacher, Miss Rathke.  She shared with us that she got into the habit of saying this verse as a prayer at 7:14 am and 7:14 pm.

Computer Lab- We worked on www.typing.com.  Many of us are advancing quickly!

P.E.- Soccer-We worked on the soccer field this week--dribbling and kicking goals!

Writing- We discussed ways to ways to begin a narrative writing piece, went on a “scavenger hunt” to find good beginnings, and learned ways to develop characters using different forms of literature as examples.

Have a blessed weekend,

Kim Brunkhorst
