Have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Hi, 4th Grade Parents!  I just want to let you know how thankful I am to our Heavenly Father for you, and for your children.  You all are such a blessing to me.  Thank you for sharing them with me each and every day!  I pray that you have a blessed Thanksgiving with your loved ones!

Here is what we have been up to this week:

Religion-

We studied the lives of Samson and of Saul.  We also had a heartfelt discussion about how God answers prayer.  He always hears them, and answers in His time.  His answers are Yes, No, Wait, and Something Better.  We discussed so many different scenarios that we have prayed about, and how God has answered them—not to our will but to HIS.  These lessons were a beautiful reminder of the power and wisdom of our Almighty Heavenly Father.

Memory for the week of November 30th:

11/30-THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT

Honor your father and your mother. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not despise or anger our parents and other authorities,

12/3-but honor them, serve and obey them, love and cherish them.

 Social Studies/Language Arts-

We all read the story “Across the Wide, Dark Sea” this week, which was about the Pilgrims’ journey to America, and their first days here.  We had spelling and vocabulary words from this story and learned A LOT of facts!  We also completed several writing projects, English lessons, and art lessons pertaining to what we learned--Wampanoag headdresses and pilgrim hats!  Be sure to ask your child about interesting facts he or she learned—Noggins are full!  ;) Our Thanksgiving Feast today was wonderful!  THANK YOU for the yummy food!  Goodness, there was an overabundance of it! We went back for seconds and thirds, and dessert, and then we were in a bit of a food coma for the rest of the day!  ;)

Spelling Words for December 3rd: from the story, “The Screech Owl Who Loved Television.”

somebody, fireplace, nearby, toothbrush, homesick, make-believe, anything, all right, goodbye, forehead, classmate, flashlight, haircut, twenty-two, driveway, alarm clock, baby-sit, airport, forever, mailbox, field trip, absent-minded, *conundrum

Math-

I said it last week, and I say it again, “I am SO proud of these kiddos!”  They have been working so hard at math!  They have all passed their nines in multiplication and will begin on the easy tens and elevens when they return from break.  In our lessons, we tested over Chapter 4, and then learned how to multiply with zeroes, and how to estimate before doing long multiplication.  They are really getting the hang of this!

 Science-

On Monday, the Zoomobile visited us!  We learned important facts about different ecosystems of the world, and met three different animals:  a hedgehog, a parrot, and a lizard.  These were SO COOL!  We continued to work on our cell posters in class.  When we resume after Thanksgiving break, we will learn more about how our bodies work!

 SPECIAL CLASSES

Art-We learned the history of Indian corn, and then used oil pastels and watercolors to draw and paint some of our own.

Music- We are now learning songs for our Christmas Program on December 15th!

Computer Lab- We worked on Google Slides and practiced labeling parts of the animal and plant cells.

P.E.- We learned more basketball skills:  dribbling, passing, and shooting!

Writing- This week, we focused on Thanksgiving:  We wrote stories about how our families celebrate, and wrote a persuasive paper from the turkey’s point of view!  These were humorous!

 Other important things to note:

*Remember – NO SCHOOL next week, November 22nd – 26th. The teachers have a conference out of town the first 2 days of the week. The rest of the week is Thanksgiving break. There will be NO CHILDCARE.

*Mid-terns came home today.  Can you believe we are already halfway through the 2nd quarter?!  Please sign and return the bottom portion when you return to school.  Thank you.

*Thanks to everyone for your generous contributions to Operation Christmas Child!  We were able to fill a total of 105 boxes!  Wow!  We pray each box will share the Good News of God’s love and the True Meaning of Christmas.  GOD IS SO GOOD!

*Several of you have asked me about wish-lists in the classroom and for athletics.  I have put together two Amazon lists.  One thing the 4th grade kiddos would love, is to have recess equipment that we will take out with our class only.  I told them I would help them build these materials and then pass it on with them as they go on to 5th grade.  :)

Here are the lists:
