Happy Weekend!

Hello, dear parents!  I hope you are well, and warm!  This has been a weird week, huh?!

With the 100th Day of School, a Snow Day, and an earned STAR Party, I promised that we DID have some learning this week!  ;)

 Here are some upcoming events:

·                     FIELD TRIP!  (This one snuck up on me!  I am so sorry!  I scheduled it back in August!)  Next week, we are doing an in-class author study of Charles Dickens and his writings—focusing mainly on Oliver Twist!  We are heading to The Bell Center

Mid America Nazarene University , 2030 East College Way, Olathe, KS 66062, to see the play, “Oliver!” put on by First Act Theatre Arts next Friday, February 11th.  The musical beings at 9:45.  We would like to get there by 9:30 to meet the director.  The show is 2 ½ hours, with an intermission.  I think this will be a wonderful experience for the kids.  Masks are required.  I have purchased 21 tickets.  We will need 6 parents to attend and/or drive, please.  Adults only, please.  Here is the sign-up to go:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4DADAB2DA7F58-oliver

Otherwise, please send in $6.00 with your child.  If this is a hardship, please let me know.   Please also send a lunch with your child that day.  We will eat in our classroom when we get back to school!   Thank you for your support!

·                     STUDENT-LED PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES are February 17th and 18th.   We dismiss at 1:00 both days.  If you need another afternoon or evening, please let me know!  Please also email me if there are any specific issues you want to be sure we discuss in our time together.

A flier came home last week, but I have attached a copy of it for more details.  Thank you!

  • BASKETBALL- Our fourth grade basketball kiddos are participating in the league tournament this weekend at Martin Luther Academy.  Please come and cheer them on if you can!  I have attached the schedule.  Boys play tonight at 5:30 and girls play tonight at 8:30.  Go Rams!

***This is a FUN time!   All classes will be creating projects to auction off!   We have an amazing parent that created a hand-made charcuterie board, with meats and cheeses, and provided us with wood pieces to make coasters.  We got our inspiration from the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians ….)  The students also illustrated the Fruits for a class collage as well.  To buy tickets and read about more details, please check out the school’s website, or see this link: https://event.auctria.com/34a99a7c-d0af-4d7d-9828-4fcf5692afd3/

·                     CHAPEL- We lead Chapel again on February 23rd!  We will have a special message about loving our neighbors.  You are always welcome to attend!  Chapel begins at 9:00.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- We have talked A LOT about the devil being our adversary—the lion on the prowl, or the fire in our lives  We studied the stories of the Three Men in the Fiery Furnace and about Daniel and the Lion’s Den.  We discussed ways of resisting Satan’s beautiful temptations.

MEMORY -

2/8- Luther’s Evening Prayer : I thank You, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have graciously kept me this day;  and I pray You to forgive me all my sins where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night.

2/11- For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen.

LANGUAGE ARTS- We have continued to read Ramona and Her Father.  We are slowly making our way through this book, and have enjoyed meeting with group to discuss!  On Tuesday, we celebrated the 100TH DAY OF SCHOOL!  We had fun doing the following:  Writing 100 things about Timothy that we love, finding 100 nouns, finding 100 ways to show kindness, playing a 100 heart math game, completing a 100-piece puzzle, doing 100 coin tosses, and doing 100 dice rolls, listening to a story about 100 hiccups, completing a 100 piece multiplication chart, and writing our name in a 100 piece chart.  We had 100 minutes of fun!

SPELLING WORDS for Friday, February 11th: scarcely, enough, laughed, ferocious, idea, million, worried, happier, evening, pajamas, *crestfallen

MATH- We continued with patterns this week.  Some of the kiddos are really struggling with this, so we will keep working until those light bulbs go off!  My plan is to finish this chapter next week, and test over it on Friday afternoon.

SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- This week, We created pictures of our future-selves at 100 years old.  They are HILARIOUS!  With this, we also added our Bucket Lists.  PLEASE come by and see them.  They are hanging outside of our classroom.

P.E.- We had 100-Day Stations—we jump roped, did wall sits, stair bounding, crunches, and the shuttle run.

Music- We had a surprise teacher this week—Ms. MacLean!  We had a lot of fun catching up with her and singing some favorite songs!

Computer Lab-We played math games, and looked up animals on www.nationnalgeographic.com.

Writing-  I LOVE THIS PROJECT!  This week, we wrote letters to ourselves that we will open on 3-3-33.  (When the kiddos are either 20 or 21 years old!!!)  We were supposed to write these to ourselves on 2-2-22, but alas, we started them on 2-3-22 (Our SNOW DAY got in the way!)  With these, we also are telling of our hopes for the future, writing down how much things cost nowadays, and making a mini time capsule four ourselves.  We will share these with you at P/T conferences, and then—Will you please put these somewhere safe to open on 3-3-33?!  Yay!

We also shared our 4th Grade Historical Fiction book reports this week!
