May God Bless You!

Hello, 4th grade parents!  We’ve had a wonderful week!

We REALLY enjoyed our field trip today to see “Oliver!” at the Bell Center Mid America Nazarene University.  It was wonderful!  It was so fun for me to see the kids whispering about the characters that they recognized form the story, and to be amazed by the scenery and props!  The student actors were phenomenal!  A special “thank you” to our amazing parent drivers!

Here are some fun upcoming events:

  • VALENTINE’S DAY is Monday!!!  We will be having a little in-class party in the afternoon.  I have some fun valentine centers for the kiddos, and we will pass out cards, and have treats.  I am bringing in sugar cookies to decorate, so we are all set!  If your child chooses to bring valentines, we LOVE that, but please make sure your child brings one for each person in the classroom.  Our class list is below.  Thank you!

4th Grade: Marline, Clay, Samantha, Layla, Hannah, Attley, Oaks, Danilyn, Wyatt, Brayden, Revae, Brekken, Taylor, Addie

STUDENT-LED PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES are February 17th and 18th.   We dismiss at 1:00 both days.  (There will not be Special Classes on Thursday.)  If you need another afternoon or evening, please let me know!  Please also email me if there are any specific issues you want to be sure we discuss in our time together.  Students will be sharing their midterm, a personal report card, and some of their work!

  • PRESIDENT’S DAY is February 21st.  We do not have school!

CHAPEL- We lead Chapel again on February 23rd!  We will have a special message about loving our neighbors.  You are always welcome to attend!  Chapel begins at 9:00.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- We learned about how the prophets foretold of Jesus coming and how the Old Testament and New Testament directly connect with one another.  We reviewed the birth of Christ that first Christmas, and the Epiphany.  We should treat everyday like Christmas.  We are so blessed.

MEMORY for next week:  2/15- Say the entire Evening Prayer.

2/18 -The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

LANGUAGE ARTS- We finished up Ramona and Her Father.  This was such a great book, with such a feel-good ending!  By now, we feel like we are good friends with Ramona and her family. ;)  I have encouraged the kiddos to read other books with Ramona and Beezus, as we have the entire set here in our classroom.  This week we also discussed predicting, contractions, and how to use context clues to find meanings of difficult words.  For read aloud, I read a child’s version of  Oliver Twist to the class, and we studied a bit about Charles Dickens.

SPELLING WORDS for Friday, February 18th:  (from The Life and Times of the Ant)

turkey, lonely, colony, steady, hungry, valley, hockey, starry, melody, movie, duty, drowsy, chimney, plenty, daily, alley, fifty, empty, injury, prairie, envy, fiery, *reinforce

MATH- We learned about numeric and nonnumeric patterns this week.  We also discovered input/output tables and how fun they are!  We used these to solve some word problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  We have 4 more days of regular mad minutes, and the kiddos are doing SO well memorizing their facts and solving them with speed and accuracy.

SCIENCE- We finished up learning all about ways to classify seed plants.  We discussed the life cycle of plants and how offspring of seed plants inherit traits form their parents.  Today, we reviewed the entire chapter.  A study guide is coming home over the weekend, as well as a Jeopardy Game for your child to study with!  (They LOVE this!)    Here is the link: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1JAN8EoMJj3IJcTSB-_9rc7A5xNmC3X7kiUGXpLByx7I/edit?usp=sharing
