*It was wonderful to see so many of you at our fun auction over the weekend!  A great time was had by all, and the last time I checked, our Timothy friends raised $36, 932 for our Scholarship Fund!  PRAISE THE LORD for His goodness and gifts!  We are BLESSED.

Goodness, I love my friends at Timothy!

*It was also so delightful to visit with each of you and Student-Led Conferencing.  I know so many of the kiddos were nervous, but they did a fantastic job!  It took us a while to prepare, so hopefully their hard work shone though!

*Please see this note from Mrs. Self regarding our 3rd quarter mission project:

Hello Timothy School Families,

This year’s 3rd Quarter Mission Project kicked off in late January during our National Lutheran Schools Week and ended on Friday, February 11th.  The project was a cash collection by the students at Timothy Lutheran School to help families who need the services provided by Hope House in Lee’s Summit, MO.  The 7th and 8th grade students researched a variety of potential mission opportunities, created informational presentations in Computer class then presented their proposed mission service organization to their class.  Once the presentations were completed, the students of the class voted on the final recipient of the mission project funds then created the ideas for the Class Contest prizes.

We started the project with a goal of $1,000.00 and ended with a total of $2,792.70!!  Wow, these kids and families nearly tripled our goal!  The funds will go towards providing food for families for one day ($25), a night of relief and safety for a family ($100), four hours of legal assistance ($250), and eight hours of individual therapy ($500).

Honestly, every class was a winner because of their mission-minded generosity.  The class contests may have been a motivator, too!

There was a tie for 1st Place – Mrs. Romo and Mrs. Self’s Classes for a ‘Movie/Pajama Afternoon with Ice Cream’, 2nd Place – Mrs. Otte’s class for ‘No Homework for a Day plus an Extra Recess’, and 3rd Place – Mrs. Vogt’s class for a ‘Fun Afternoon Snack’.

We pray our project will help bless the lives of families who are in need.  Thank you to everyone for your support of Timothy Lutheran School’s mission project that will touch the lives of families in our community in a meaningful way.

 Sincerely,

Mary Beth Self

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- We learned all about John the Baptist preparing the way for the Lord, and then about Jesus being tempted by Satan.  We discussed how Satan tempts us and uses the things of this world to try and pull us from God’s grip.  We do get tempted, and often times do succumb to those temptations, but God NEVER loses us.  We are always within His grip.  Jesus died to so that we did not have to face this alone.  We discussed that the best weapons against Satan’s temptations are God’s Word and prayer!  We also had wonderful discussions about the temptations in social media and the damage it causes to so many people.  My prayer is that we can teach this younger generation, (before they are engulfed in it as teenagers and young adults), about these temptations and how Satan works through these media platforms to pull away our kiddos from Christ, mostly be telling them that they are not enough.  He created each of us and we are made in HIS image.

This week, we also led Chapel and shared with the rest of the school how God calls on all of us to love our neighbors.  We shared ways that we can share God’s love with people when they seem so unlovable.

MEMORY - 3/1-Recite the entire Apostle’s Creed.

3/4-Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. Revelation 2:10b

LANGUAGE ARTS/SOCIAL STUDIES- For Language Arts this week, we focused on Scholastic News and reading in our Missouri History books.  We learned all about the regions in Missouri, the Missouri River, and the Mississippi River, the climate, and its natural resources.  We are gaining some Missouri knowledge!

SPELLING WORDS for Friday, March 4th:  from “Ecology for Kids”

tiniest, hobbies, copied, countries, pitied, easier, laziest, families, spied, happiest, ladies, friendlier, studied, busier, breezier, prettiest, noisier, healthier, butterflies, funniest

MATH- We learned Order of Operations this week (Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally!!)  Remember?!  Then, once this was learned, we tried it out to solve word problems.  We are getting the hang of it!

SCIENCE-  We tested over plant and animals cells this week, as well as other facts about living things.  Graded tests are coming home today!  I am so proud of how hard these kiddos are working!

SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- We drew and colored hearts with unparallel lines.  They are beautiful!   We have decided to hang these in the 4-G’s area.

P.E.- We played scooter soccer and had some free time.

Music- This week, we practiced singing some our songs for our upcoming Spring Musical!

Computer Lab-We learned how to get onto the Prodigy website and played some challenging math games.  Hopefully, some of you were able to access the game at home, because this is a fun one!  (Paperwork came home on Tuesday.)

Writing- This week, we shared our fictional narratives and began publishing them.  We had some extra time during the week to work on this as well.

Have a blessed weekend!

Kim

This is the 7th/8th grade art work this week.  I get to see it every time I exit my classroom.  Isn't it beautiful?!
