God is Present--Everywhere in Everything!

Did you happen to see the rainbow on Thursday afternoon?  God helped decorate our volleyball party and remind us of His presence!  ;)

Hello, 4th grade families!  Another great week is in the books!  😊

Here are some IMPORTANT notes:

*Today is the end of the first quarter!  Can you believe it?!  Report cards will come home with your student on Friday, October 28th

*The HARVEST PARTY is tonight, from 6:00-8:00 here at the school!  Bring your neighbors and their kids!

*Our 7th/8th Grade girls will be participating in their VOLLEYBALL league tournament this weekend at Calvary Lutheran School.  If you are interested in coming to cheer us on, I have attached the schedule for you!  GO RAMS!

*TLS Families Pray Together – Wednesday Mornings Between Drop-Off and Chapel

What do you do after you drop you children off for school on Wednesdays when you stay for chapel?  Do you make a coffee run?  Well, we may not be Starbucks, but…we will have coffee and a brief time of gathering to pray for our students, families, and community with a focus on gratitude in the 4G’s area of our school lobby.  Join us beginning Wednesday, October 19th!

*Starting next Monday after drop off, the PARKING LOT is going to be repaired. This is what pick and drop off will look like for PS – 2: There will be no drop off or pick up lines. For drop off, all parents will need to park in the south lot and walk their child up to the door. For pick up, please park in the south lot and line up on the sidewalk. We will bring the students out to the line of parents.

*SERVICE PROJECT-As a school, we are collecting items for “Busy Bee Bags,” to give to the children of Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.  We are partnering with Lutheran High School of Kansas City’s Honor Society and we need your help!  Fourth graders are collecting small boxes of crayons.  If you are able, please send these into school until October 31st.  I have attached the flier for more details.  Thank you for your help!

*SCHOOL PICTURES--There was a problem with our pictures at the processing plant. Therefore, no one has received their pictures. Re-takes will not be this Friday. They have been rescheduled for November 14th at 8:30 am.

*Next week, we will be learning all about Martin Luther and the REFORMATION.  We will be combining Religion class and Language Arts, as we dive deep into Martin’s life, and learn how he stood up for his faith, and helped reform the church by spreading the GOOD NEWS of Jesus!  As a culmination activity, we will have a special German lunch (provided by the Brunkhorsts) on Monday, October 31st, Reformation Day!  Students are welcome to bring their own lunches or to partake in our feast in the classroom.  We will be having family recipes of wiener schnitzel and sauerkraut, German potato salad, corn, and German chocolate cake.   (Oh, and book reports are also due Monday, October 31st!  Just a reminder!)

*Our classroom HARVEST PARTY is Friday, October 28th in the afternoon.  If you are interested in sending in treats, please contact our Room Person, Misty Kearney, at m-kearney@hotmail.com.  She is organizing the treats for us!  We will play a few goofy games, eat some yummy treats, and watch, “It’s a Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!”

*TRIVIA NIGHT is November 4th! Tickets are available to purchase tonight at the Harvest party and will be available online very soon!  Start gathering your team of 8 now. The theme is “Timmyvision!”

*On Friday, November 11, we will be holding a VETERANS DAY PROGRAM for the community.  You are welcome to come, too!  The program itself will begin at 9:00, but there will be donuts and refreshments offered beforehand for our guests.  Please feel free to invite the veterans you know and love!  BONUS - if you have photos of those who’ve served, we would love to include them in a slideshow during the program.  Feel free to email a digital copy or send in a photo (we will be sure to return it straight to you once it’s been scanned).  Please email or give these to our 3rd grade teacher, Kathy Romo.  kathyr@timothylutheran.com  Thank you!

THAT WAS A LOT!  Thank you!

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- This week, we focused on the Israelites, after their exit from Egypt.  We talked about how God cared for them in the wilderness, yet they still complained all of the times about God’s generous gifts.  Don’t we do that same, though?  We learned the Bible story about the Snake on the Pole, and the Israelites Crossing the Jordan River.  We will take a break from our Religion books next week to focus on the life of Martin Luther.

In CHAPEL this week, we were able to witness a baptism!  Praise the Lord!  Will Tierney’s little brother, Hank, was baptized during Chapel.  It was a beautiful thing to witness and we are so excited that Hank has joined God’s family through the washing waters of Baptism!

MEMORY for Next Week:

10/25- Luther’s Morning Prayer: I thank You, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger;

10/28-and I pray You to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and; life may please You.

LANGUAGE ARTS- We read about the collage artist Romare Bearden in the story, “Me and Uncle Romie.”  We learned all about Harlem and collage painting!  The skills we talked about this week: finding a theme, idioms, and verb tense.

SPELLING Words for Friday, October 28th:

Martin Luther, afraid, church, knight, monk, trust, choir, shield, scare, forgiveness, indulgence, Lutheran, heaven, victory, statements

Challenge Word: Reformation

MATH- Our math brains grew this week!  We discussed the factors and multiples, and learned the properties of multiplication and rules of division.  Yesterday, we dissected word problems to find the useful information and if answers were reasonable.  We reviewed Chapter 3 today and will test on Monday.

SOCIAL STUDIES-We discussed the mountain states and the western states.  We will finish up this chapter about the regions of the United States and test over it next week.  A study guide will come home on Monday.  We begin our first Science unit soon!

SPECIAL CLASSES

ART-We made beautiful woven pumpkins that are adorning the hallway outside of our classroom!

MUSIC- Students practiced songs for the upcoming Veteran’s Day Program.  They are getting excited!

COMPUTER LAB- We worked on typing.com and published on Google Docs.
