Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- In Religion this week, we had some amazing discussions.  We reviewed the stories of the “Rich Man” and “Lazarus” and talked about how we should live our lives here on earth, because we know one day God will take us to heaven to be with Him!  The children discussed how they plan to live each day to the fullest, that they should strive to keep their faith strong, how to resist temptations, and how to treat others with forgiveness and love.  The discussions turned to questions about heaven, which was neat, and there were so many questions!  Some I could answer and others, not!  One question was about the unbeliever and what happens at death.  We had a very mature conversation about this, so I wanted you aware.  We also talked about how God is the only One who knows what is truly in one’s heart.

We shared 1 Samuel 16:7b—“The Lord does not look at the things man looks at.  Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”  We created and shared some skits today that shared our faith.  I again, want to thank you for sharing your children with me!  They are amazing and I love spending my days with them!

MEMORY-3/28-Neither life nor death shall ever

From the Lord His children sever;

Unto them His grace He showeth,

And their sorrows all He knoweth.

3/31-Though He giveth or He taketh,

God His children ne’er forsaketh;

His the loving purpose solely

To preserve them pure and holy.

LANGUAGE ARTS- We read “The Life and Times of the Ant,”  in which we learned about anthills, the ant body, the ant family, ant holes, and ant predators.  We also talked about how AMAZING our God is, that He created these little beings to live and work together and communicate as they do!  They form communities, build highways, have jobs, and work together.  It is awesome.  This week, we also learned about finding details to support our main ideas, how to read informational text, and how to edit quotation marks and listing items.

SPELLING WORDS for next Friday,  March 31st:  from “Ecology for Kids”

tiniest, hobbies, copied, countries, pitied, easier, laziest, families, spied, happiest, ladies, friendlier, studied, busier, breezier, prettiest, noisier, healthier, butterflies, funniest, heaviest, categories; Challenge Word: calamity

MATH- We have been working with mixed fractions, improper fractions, logically solving word problems, and how to decompose mixed fractions.  We will finish this chapter up, and test over next week!

SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS-We learned how to write checks, cash checks, and give back change!  We also made sure we are all READY to go in a few weeks!  We have our loan applications, job supply lists, show signs, and understand how to price items according to supply and demand.  We have one more week!

SPECIAL CLASSES:

MUSIC- We practiced “Children of the Heavenly Father,” and learned the Louis Armstrong hit, "What a Wonderful World."

ART- This week, we focused on shape and line.  We drew pictures of our toys, paying close attention to details.  We also drew and colored still life drawings with the toys in the classroom!

COMPUTER- We used the website www.icivic.org to learn about immigrants.  We had some fun playing the games!

WRITERS’ WORKSHOP- We had the persuasive essay writing prompt:  Convince people to visit your hometown.  Students had to use a graphic organizer,  have detailed reasons to support their opinions, and then write an introduction, a body, and conclusion.  Just a note…Some of the kiddos did not know the name of their hometowns, so we had a whole conversation about learning addresses, and the importance in this.

P.E.-We played more with the parachute this week-Cat & Mouse and tag!

Blessings,

Kim
