SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS- We are headed to the School of Economics on Monday, April 3rd.  We have all of our all-day volunteers, but if you are able to help drop-off only that morning, we still need a few more drivers.  Here is the link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4DADAB2DA7F58-school

Other important information:

-The cost for you for this field trip is $5. PTL has generously offered to pay the other $10 per student!  THANK YOU, PTL!  Please send this $5 in with your child, and give to your child’s teacher. (There is no cost for parents attending.)

-Students will NOT need to pack a lunch, as this fee includes food for them. **If your child has food allergies and would rather bring in their own food out of safety concerns, that is preferred - please speak with your child's teacher.   (Volunteers do NOT need to pay the fee, but your lunch is included, too.)

-Our day ends there at 1:30, so we should return to school about 2:00.

-If you want to help, but all the spots are taken, please contact your child's teacher, and we'll put you on a "will-call" list in the case that another parent has to back out. Thank you in advance for your help!!  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- We discussed the miracle of Jesus Walking on Water, and the Parable of the Rich Fool.  Both lessons focused on how we need to turn our eyes to Jesus and to ask Him to help us focus on the important things in life, instead of the things that distract us from Him and His Word.  We made lists of our many, many blessing.  (Be sure to look in homework folders for these.)  We had a neat object lesson with this too!  We put rocks, pebbles, and sand in a jar.  It was hard to fit rocks (God, church, the Bible) and pebbles (family time, chores, homework) in a jar, if we put in sand (video games, t.v., toys) in first!  We have to put the rocks in first, to make sure everything fits into our lives!  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these thing will added to you.  ~Matthew 6:33

MEMORY work for next week:

3/21-Children of the heav’nly Father

Safely in His bosom gather;

Nestling bird nor star in heaven

Such a refuge e’er was given.

3/24-God His own doth tend and nourish;

In His holy courts they flourish.

From all evil things He spares them;

In His mighty arms He bears them.

LANGUAGE ARTS- We read the true story of Sacajawea, Charbonneau, their son Pomp, and Lewis and Clark.   This goes hand-in-hand with what we are studying in Missouri History!   We were amazed at their adventures, their bravery, and the geographical and scientific discoveries the Corps of Discovery made during their expedition.  We also talked a lot about abbreviations and quotation marks this week.

SPELLING WORDS for next Friday, March 24th:  (from The Life and Times of the Ant)

turkey, lonely, colony, steady, hungry, valley, hockey, starry, melody, movie, duty, drowsy, chimney, plenty, daily, alley, fifty, empty, injury, prairie, envy, fiery, *reinforce

MATH- We are knee deep in fractions!!!  We learned all about mixed fractions, improper fractions, logically solving word problems, and how to decompose mixed fractions.  We finished up our beginning unit on fractions this week, and tested over it.  We now have begun our operations with Fractions.

SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS- Shops met and they filled out our Job Supply Lists and Loan Applications this week, figuring out how much we needed to spend on supplies, paychecks, taxes, and interest!  It was very eye-opening.  We finished up shops signs and passports.  We also began our first pricing guides that will aid us on our trip!

SPECIAL CLASSES:

MUSIC- We practiced the tune to our memory verses for next week—“Children of the Heavenly Father.”  We also worked on our songs for the Spring Musical.

ART- This week, we learned all about Roy G. Biv—that silly guy that he is!

COMPUTER- We took our Computer time this week to publish our paragraphs and to practice typing.

WRITERS’ WORKSHOP- We had Readers’ Theatre this week, where we shared our “Very Important Day” assignments.  We have some GREAT writers in here!

P.E.-We played with parachute this week—Popcorn Popper and Washing Machine!

Blessings,

Kim
