It's the end of the 3rd quarter!

Hi, all!  Today is the end of the 3rd quarter!  Can you believe it?!  Report cards will come home next Friday.

***THE 4th graders have earned another STAR party for good behavior and they have voted to celebrate next Friday, on St. Patrick’s Day!  They want to bring board games and/or video games to play with friends, and some snacks.  They have my permission to bring games that are school appropriate and either personal snacks or snacks to share with the class.  I said I would make us some green Kool-Aid for the occasion!  ;)  Please congratulate them on a job well done!

It was wonderful to see moms, grandmas, and loved ones on Wednesday!  We had quite a turnout, and had some fun sharing our letters, and completing mad libs!  It was also great to see so many of you at the Lenten dinner and service.  Thank you.  There was $535 collected from the pizza dinner for the Scholarship Fund, and our voices were beautiful at church as we sang about our AMAZING Jesus!

We practiced our songs after Chapel too!

SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS- (4th-6th grades) We are headed to the School of Economics on Monday, April 3rd, and we are SO excited for this trip!  THANK YOU for signing up to help that day!  We have all of our all-day volunteers, but if you are able to help drop-off only that morning, we still need a few more drivers.  Here is the link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4DADAB2DA7F58-school

Other important information is below:

-The cost for you for this field trip is $5. Please send this in with your child, and give to your child’s teacher. A generous donor is covering the other $10 per student.  ($15 total) We are so THANKFUL!  Please send this $5 to school. (There is no cost for parents.)

-Students will NOT need to pack a lunch, as this fee includes food for them. **If your child has food allergies and would rather bring in their own food out of safety concerns, that is preferred - please speak with your child's teacher.   (Volunteers do NOT need to pay the fee, but your lunch is included, too.)

-Our day ends there at 1:30, so we should return to school about 2:00.

-If you want to help, but all the spots are taken, please contact your child's teacher, and we'll put you on a "will-call" list in the case that another parent has to back out. Thank you in advance for your help!!  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- We have learned about Jesus’ transfiguration and His parables. We were reminded that all are sinners and fall short of the glory of God!  Thank goodness for JESUS!  In Chapel this week, Pastor Ryan taught us that God can take our mess and our failures, and turn them into something good!  (A few months ago we read about an artist who’s art studio was a GLORIOUS MESS!  I love this phrase, and during Chapel, I thought about this…God can take our messes and turn them into something absolutely glorious!

MEMORY work for next week:

3/14-For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~Romans 6:23

3/17- For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus… ~Romans 3:23-24

LANGUAGE ARTS- We reviewed the story,” The Very Important Day,” which correlated directly to our School of Economics unit.  We discussed the many families in the story, what countries they came from, and more details about them.  We worked with quotation marks this week, as well as cause and effect, and chronological order.

SPELLING WORDS for next Friday, March 17th (from Sacajawea)

million, collect, lumber, pepper, plastic, borrow, support, thirty, perfect, attend, canyon, traffic, fortune, danger, soccer, engine, picture, survive, seldom, effort, *interpreter

MATH- We are working with fractions!  This week, we learned how to put fractions in their simplest form, how to find equivalent fractions, how to order fractions,  how to solve word problems with fractions, and what mixed numbers and improper fractions were.  We will test over this chapter next week.

SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS- This week, we received our jobs and began working in shops, creating signs, nametags, and working on passports, as we learn more about our respective countries.

SPECIAL CLASSES:

MUSIC- We practiced our songs for the Lenten this week and the upcoming Spring Musical!

ART- We studied the artist Georgia O’Keefe, read a short biography about her and her artwork, and then studied flowers to make flower paintings of our own!

COMPUTER- We took our Computer time this week to research famous Missourians and to publish our paragraphs.

WRITERS’ WORKSHOP- We had three writing assignments about "The Very Important Day."  We went through the writing process and published these too!

P.E.-We practiced with scooters and played some scooter soccer!

Lutheran High School-Kansas City has some GREAT summer camps available!  My girls did many of these when they were in grade school, and leaned so much!  (Art, volleyball, basketball, and running!)
Blessings,

Kim
