SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS-
(4th-6th grades) We are headed to the School of Economics
on Monday, April 3rd, and we are SO excited for this trip! We started preparing this week already! As many of you know, interviews were
today. Your child will find out next
week what job he or she will have. We
will be meeting with the 5th and 6th graders twice a week, (Mondays and
Wednesdays), learning skills such as making a budget, buying supplies,
understanding supply/demand, writing checks, selling goods, working cooperatively,
HAVING A TON OF FUN, and much more! It
takes a lot of work in class to make this special day flow, and we are getting ready! We are attending the School of Economics with
St. Thomas Moore, a Catholic school in Kansas City, and are excited to meet
some new friends!
We will need some of you to help that day! We will need exactly NINE volunteers for this trip. Parent help is needed ALL DAY, but space is limited, so slots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. They don’t let any other parents in the building that day, except these NINE volunteers for our school. Thank you so much for your help!! These parents will have training at the School of Economics at 8:45. We will meet them there, which also means we need some parents that will only be able to drive us there and drop us off. We will need to leave school no later than 9:10.

Other important information is below:
-The cost for you for this field trip is $5. A generous
donor is covering the other $10 per student.
($15 total) We are so THANKFUL!
Please send this $5 to school. (There is no cost for parents.)
-Students will NOT need to pack a lunch, as this fee
includes food for them. **If your child has food allergies and would rather
bring in their own food out of safety concerns, that is preferred - please
speak with your child's teacher.
(Volunteers do NOT need to pay the fee, but your lunch is included,
too.)
-Our day ends there at 1:30, so we should return to
school about 2:00.
-If you want to help, but all the spots are taken, please
contact your child's teacher, and we'll put you on a "will-call" list
in the case that another parent has to back out. Thank you in advance for your
help!! Please let me know if you have
any questions.
Date: 4/3/23 (Monday)
Time: 9:00am - 1:30pm
Location: School of Economics, 200 NW 14 St, Blue
Springs, MO 64015
Here is what we have been up to this week:
RELIGION- We have been learning about Jesus preaching in
Nazareth and raising Jairus’s daughter.
We have a beautiful discussion about heaven and what we know for sure,
what we wonder, and some misconceptions people have. We consulted God’ s Word for the
answers. Today we test over unit 6, and
will begin talking about Jesus performing more of His miracles next week.
MEMORY work for next week:
3/7-For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only
Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. ~John
3:16
3/10- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God. ~John 1:1
LANGUAGE ARTS- This week, we finished up we “Ramona and Her Father,” by Beverly Cleary. This was a great book, and led to many great discussions about family, health issues, family pets, and loss. We tested over the story today. This week, we also shared our Mystery Book Reports and posters! These are AMAZING and well done! They are hanging up in the hallway outside of our room, so please come and check them out! Information has also come home about our March book report, which is over a non-fiction selection. This one does not need to be 100 pages, but just needs to be at a 4th grade or above reading level and be okayed by me. The student will be creating story windsocks for their projects. Please see the handout for details. These are due March 31t. Thank you!
SPELLING WORDS for Friday, March 10th: from the story, “A Very Important Day”:
horse, chore, firm, learn, dirty, curve, world, pure, board,
course, heard, return, cure, score, worm, thirteen, worn, curl, shirt, search,
*allegiance
MATH-We learned how to make equivalent fractions and put them in simplest form. We also compared and ordered fractions and learned how to use benchmark fractions. We have SO many kiddos pass their final mad minute this week! Congratulations!
SOCIAL STUDIES- In Missouri History, we discussed the climate and natural resources of Missouri. We learned where resources are located and which ones are renewable and nonrenewable. We also discussed Missouri’s highest and lowest points. Please quiz your kiddo to see what they learned! ;)
SPECIAL CLASSES:
MUSIC- We practiced our songs for the Lenten service next
week!
ART- We finished up our sports pictures this week, and they
are amazing! You should see our athletes
in action! These are hanging up in our
school hallway.
COMPUTER-To practice our keyboarding skills, we typed out
friendly letters. We worked on spacing,
punctuation, and spelling correctly.
WRITERS’ WORKSHOP- We continued our poetry unit, where we
searched for, studied, and wrote different types of poetry-- Similes,
Metaphors, Alliterations, Onomatopoeia, and Personification!
HEALTH-We have been combining Health and Computer Lab this year, and learning on Google Slides. Yesterday, we reviewed how to deal with certain emotions, and we concentrated on anxiety. We had a great discussion about things that make us nervous and how anxiety causes us to have headaches and tummy aches, etc. So many of the kiddos shared personal experiences. I shared some personal ones too. We discussed ways to calm ourselves down and ease the tension in our bodies and minds. First of all, to PRAY. God is ALWAYS there. Secondly, to come see me. I have a chart that I shared with the kiddos with a scale of 1-5. This will always be at my desk. This will help both of us understand where they might be within the worry/anxiety realm. We discussed how some worry about certain things is natural and good. It shows that they care! (Like today’s interviews for School of Economics!) If they are experiencing a 3-5, they can take a walk down the hall, get a drink, find a pillow in the classroom and lie down for a bit, use a stress ball, talk to a friend, talk to a pastor, etc. I am thankful we have such a family atmosphere in this classroom, that we can be here for one another, that we can lean on God, and that we CAN talk about these types of things here at school! Please let me know if you have any questions.
P.E.-We had fun playing "Striker Ball" again, and learning how to play “Hook-On Tag” yesterday!
We shared book reports this week!
