Happy Weekend! :)

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

What a week!  We have been busy, but having a ton of fun!  It was so wonderful to see so many of you at the parade last Saturday and at the Timmy Burger Booth!  Thank you for your support and help!  It is a blessing to serve alongside of you!

*THANK YOU to all who helped and donated to the WALK-A-THON today!  Even though it rained, AGAIN this year, and we had to move the festivities inside, we went with the flow, and had FUN!!!  Your prayers and support mean the world to us!  Please send in donations (with the form) by October 2nd.  You still have time to get them.  Remember there is also the online route: https://timothylutheranschool.com/walkathon/

 Please don’t forget:

*PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES for full-time students are scheduled for next Friday, September 29th.  (We do not have school this day.)  I am looking forward to visiting with you about your child's grades, work habits, MAP testing scores, and how they are generally doing in 4th grade!   (This is just a parent/teacher meeting.)  Please pick a time that works best for you and your family.  If you cannot find one that suits you, please email me, and we will work something out!  I have made up a Sign-Up Genius for you to pick your time to meet:   https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4DADAB2DA7F58-1stquarter1

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- This week, we have been focusing on the life of Isaac and his son Jacob.  We had wonderful discussions about sacrificing things for God, and giving up things that are important to us to focus on HIM.  We also talked about how as Christians, we need to lift up our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ in Jesus name.  We are actively practicing that in our classroom—although it is hard at times, we are asking the Holy Spirit to help us in this venture!  2nd graders also shared a beautiful message in Chapel this Wednesday about the 10 commandments and how to RESPECT God and one another!

LANGUAGE ARTS- We read such a fun and mysterious reading selection this week entitled, The Stranger, by Chris VanAllsburg.  (The author of The Polar Express and Jumangi.)  This was a wonderful story about autumn and the changing weather, but had such a mysterious twist to it, that it led to wonderful discussions!  Please remind your student that our Newbery book reports and projects are due NEXT Thursday, September 28th.  Thank you!

Skills we reviewed this week:  compound words, synonyms, and finding details in text.

SPELLING WORDS for the Week of September 28th, from the story, Cendrillon:

harbor, final, middle, weather, labor, model, chapter, special, sugar, bottle, medal, collar, proper, towel, beggar, battle, trouble, shower, uncle, doctor,

*Challenge Word: omnipotent

MATH- This week, we reviewed  Addition and Subtraction Properties and Rules, addition and subtraction patterns, how to add and subtract mentally, and how to estimate sums and differences!  The students are doing much better at taking their time, SLOWING down, and checking over their math work before handing it in.  I am so proud of them!  We began our 4’s in mad minutes!  Please keep working at home!

SOCIAL STUDIES- In Scholastic News, we learned about how we too can be everyday heroes and how making mistakes helps us learn.  :)  We also learned more about Missouri History:  Our main crops, the state flag, the state seal, and the state motto.

SPECIAL CLASSES

ART- We talked about taking our line knowledge that we learned last week, and turned them into a composition drawing.  We created a still-life, using everyday items from our classroom.  We used “viewfinders” and chose a certain view of our still-life, drew it, and painted it using primary colors, and mixing the secondary and tertiary colors we needed.  They are beautiful!

MUSIC-The students have been learning about solfege and how to use handbells.

WRITING- We read the story "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" and discuss sequencing and chronological order.  We then talked about our own summer vacations and began making pretend Instastories about them!

P.E.- This week, we learned the rules of dodgeball, and had some fun playing it!

Have a fabulous weekend!
