It is a good to day to be a 4th Grader!

 Dear 4th Grade Parents,

It has been another beautiful, crazy week!  Thank you for spoiling me SO much today!  I am so very blessed by you and your kiddos.  God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!

*Totals from our WALK-A-THON are in!  (Drum roll, please!!!)  Our grand total of money raised is: $4, 993.25!  Mr. Holland is donating the last $6.75 to bring us up to $5,000!!!   Woohoo!  Way to go, Rams!  It will be fun to see the fruits of our labor next fall with our new Clear Touch boards in our mobile classrooms!  Brekken Wheeler, a 5th grader, had the most overall laps with 70, and Oaks MacLean and Max Savage were at a close second with 69!  Our class winner was Isaac, with 63 laps!

Here are the classes that brought in the most donations:

3rd place:  Mrs. Steinhauser’s Kindergarten with $621.00.

2nd place: Mrs. Harris’s 3rd Grade with $828.75.

1st place: Mrs. Brunkhorst’s 4th Grade with $884.50!  (A donut party is coming our way!)

THANK YOU for your support and donations!  Praise God for His generous gifts!

*Please remember that we will not have school next Thursday and Friday, as teachers will be leaving right after school on Wednesday for the Lake of the Ozarks to attend the Missouri Teachers Conference.  My prayers is that we will all learn a ton, and come back refreshed and renewed.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- This week in Religion, we discussed the life of Moses, the 10 Plagues, Passover, and the Exodus.  We talked about God’s plan for each of us, and how we can use ANY of our talents to praise Him now and in the future. We talked about how the commandments apply to our daily lives. I am hoping to watch the movie, “The Prince of Egypt,” next week, and then discuss similarities and differences to the true story.

MEMORY for Next Week: Recite all of the New Testament Books

LANGUAGE ARTS- This week, we were introduced to a play entitled, “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.”  :)  We discussed what the narrator does, what scenes are, what the setting is, what dialogue is, and how stage directions tell an actor what to do.  We practiced this play in groups, and each group will give their “performance” for the other half of the class next Wednesday.  :)  I messed up a bit with the book report this month—my apologies!  When I handed out the information, I shared it as a “fantasy” book report, when it was actually supposed to be a book with an “animal as the main character.”  Since I made this error, either kind of book will be fine, and your child can just do the opposite for November’s book report.  For some, their fantasy book they picked out had an animal as the main character, so it was no problem at all!  ;)  Thanks for understanding!

Skills we reviewed this week:  public speaking, homonyms, character-development

*We will not have SPELLING WORDS next week.

COMPUTER LAB-We went to the Computer Lab and learned how to log onto Google Docs, and began writing our first papers today!

MATH- This week in math, we have focused on subtracting 6-digit numbers with and without regrouping.  We have also been solving word problems that include subtractions, estimation, and multi-step solving.  We will finish up this chapter this week, and test next week.  We will soon begin the chapter on multiplication!

SOCIAL STUDIES- We voted on our classroom flag and Lillie is our winner!  She will create a flag that will hang in our classroom the remainder of the year!  Her flag included class colors: red, blue, and yellow.  She also has symbols in the seal that stand for: “Jesus is the light and love of our firm foundation.”  What a wonderful way to share her faith!

This week, we also learned about several regions in the United States:  The Northeast region and the Southeast regions.  We learned what states these include, what their major forms of economy are, the heritage, and the population.  We also learned about the Equator, the Prime Meridian, how many counties Missouri has, and what the state nickname is and means!   Just Show Me!  ;)

SPECIAL CLASSES

ART- We discussed how art can create a mood, and then drew a Fall Parade.  We used pencils, oil pastels, and a black wash to create a night time scene for each painting.  We will finish these up next Tuesday.  These are cool!

MUSIC-Students are practicing songs for the Veterans Day Program.

WRITING-We shared our Instastories and other written work in Readers’ Theatre.

P.E.- We played Dr. Dodgeball and fun was had by all!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kim
