Have a BLESSED weekend... :)

Hi, 4th Grade, Parents!  Fall weather is finally here!  It has been a busy, but fun week in 4th Grade Land.  :)

*The END OF THE QUARTER is today!  We dismiss at 12:30, so we can work on grade cards.  We will be passing these out at conferences next week.  Please help your students check Sycamore for missing assignments.  The last day that I will accept them and redo’s are on Monday.  We have to have grades entered by Tuesday morning.  Thank you for your help with this.

*Timothy’s HARVEST PARTY is tonight, from 6 pm-8 pm.  There will be dinner, treats, games, trunk-or-treat, and LOTS of fun!  Please join us!

*Our 7th/8th VOLLEYBALL players and our SOCCER team have their league tournaments this weekend.  I have attached their schedules in case you want to go and cheer them on!  GO, RAMS!

*Myrna Mardis from the Blue Springs Optimist Club came and visited us this week!  She talked about all the activities available in Blue Springs for the kids, including the  Spooky Springs and the Fishing Derby.  She sent a note home about these events.  She also distributed student dictionaries to all the 4th graders at TLS!  All 4th graders in the city of Blue Springs receive one.  :)   We are so thankful!

*PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES are coming up next week on Thursday and Friday, October 24th and 25th.   We will be dismissing school at 12:30 both days, and beginning the first conference at 1:00 pm.  Please sign up for a conference:

*We will be commemorating VETERAN’S DAY on November 11th, with a service celebrating them!  Our students will be singing, reading poetry and prayers, and thanking God for our veterans!  We encourage you to use the attached flyer to invite family, friends, and neighbors to Timothy Lutheran School’s Veterans Day Celebration.  Everyone is welcome!

This fun-filled evening promises laughter and friendly competition for everyone.   Gather your friends, form a team, and prepare to showcase your trivia skills! Stay tuned for more details on registration and event specifics.  We can’t wait to see you there!

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- We have been studying the lives of King Josiah, Daniel, and Jeremiah.  We had wonderful discussions about how God, despite the people and their continuous sinning and turning away from Him, remained faithful to them and loved them.  He does the same for us!  We discussed the “lions”  in  our own lives and how Satan tries to trick us around every corner.  We shared ways that we can resist those temptations and how God is there to help us.  God is holy and must punish sin, but Jesus took that ultimate punishment for us.

Next week, we will be learning all about Martin Luther and the REFORMATION.  We will be combining Religion class and Language Arts, as we dive deep into Martin’s life, and learn how he stood up for his faith, and helped reform the church by spreading the GOOD NEWS of Jesus!

MEMORY for Next Week:

10/22-For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things.   Let Your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen.

10/25-Say the entire Morning Prayer.

LANGUAGE ARTS-We read about the collage artist Romare Bearden in the story, “Me and Uncle Romie.”  We learned all about Harlem and collage painting!  The skills we talked about this week: finding a theme, idioms, and verb tense.

SPELLING Words for Friday, October 25th:

Martin Luther, afraid, church, knight, monk, trust, choir, shield, scare, forgiveness, indulgence, Lutheran, heaven, victory, statements

Challenge Word: Reformation

MATH- We have been working with comparison problems—comparing multiplication and addition.  We have also been working on finding the unknown variable and solving comparison problems using division. We reviewed Unit 4 and tested over it today!

SOCIAL STUDIES- We completed a ton of map work!  We learned about the Northeast and the Southeast regions of the United States this week.  What an amazing country God has blessed us with!

SPECIAL CLASSES

ART- We drew and painted beautiful Zentangle Pumpkins, which are now adoring the walls of the hallway.  :)

MUSIC- We practiced our songs for the upcoming Veteran’s Day Program.

COMPUTERS- We continued partner work on our Fractured Fairytales!
