Happy November 1st!

Hi, 4th Grade Parents!  Happy Reformation Week!  I pray that you have had a wonderful week, and a fun Halloween!

We had a fun REFORMATION/FALL PARTY yesterday!  We had some fun eating a German meal (complete with German chocolate cake), solving a Luther’s Seal riddle, hunting some math zombies, playing Reformation/Halloween charades, and drawing Dice Monsters!  We also ate some snacks, dipped some apples in caramel, drank some apple cider, and watched “It’s the Great Pumpkin!”  Good ol’, Chuck!  ;)  We had a GREAT time!

*We will be commemorating VETERAN’S DAY on November 11th, with a service celebrating them!  Our students will be singing, reading poetry and prayers, and thanking God for our veterans!  We encourage you to use the attached flyer to invite family, friends, and neighbors to Timothy Lutheran School’s Veterans Day Celebration.  Everyone is welcome!

*If you have a family member who has a military uniform that your child can wear during our performance on Veteran’s Day, it would be greatly appreciated.  Great care will be taken of them!  Please let Mrs. Hatcher know by emailing her at beckieh@timothylutheran.com. Thank you!

*4th Grade hosts Chapel on November 13th, at 8:45.  Please join us!

*Get Ready for TLS TRIVIA NIGHT!  Join us for the annual TLS Trivia Night on Friday, Nov. 15th, at the Elks Lodge, located at 100 SE Brizendine Rd., Blue Springs. Doors will open at 6:00pm and trivia will start at 7:00pm. It’s sure to be a wickedly fun evening filled with trivia. All proceeds benefit the TLS Scholarship Fund—don’t let this opportunity melt away!  You’ll have plenty of laughs, with chances to win prizes like The Winning Trivia Team (no need for a heart or courage here!), Best Themed Costumes & Table Decorations, and even Last Place Team—because even the Scarecrow deserves a little love!  There will be two different ticket options this year: a regular ticket at $25 per person or $160 for a table of 8 and you may bring your own snacks OR a meal ticket which includes a pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, coleslaw, and chips at $35 per person or $240 per table. (Do you want a meal, but the rest of your teammates don’t? No worries! The wizard can grant that wish for just $10/meal.)   No need to click your heels together to find a team; our organizers will match you with fellow players! It’s a fantastic way to meet other Timothy families and make some friends on the yellow brick road.  Don’t forget to bring some extra cash for Mulligans (4 for $10, or 9 for $20) and Block-Your-Neighbor tokens (2 for $10 or 3 for $15), 50/50 raffle, and a cash bar where you can purchase some liquid courage!

Seats are limited, so grab your tickets before they disappear over the rainbow!

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- This week in Religion, we reviewed the things we have learned about Martin Luther and the Reformation and also have dissected the first and second commandments and their meanings.  We talked a lot about putting God first in our lives and respecting His name.

 MEMORY for Next Week:

11/5-What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so we do not curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie, or deceive by His name,

11/8-but call upon it in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks.

LANGUAGE ARTS- We read the story, Dear Mr. Winston, which was a story of friendly letters written by a gregarious young girl named Cara.  The letters were supposed to be an apology, but…We discussed how that was not quite so! ;)  We learned these skills:  Friendly letter writing, finding conclusions/generalizations, character studies, and simple/compound sentences.

SPELLING Words for Friday, November 8th:  (from “The Butterfly” by Patricia Polacco)

aunt, women, unusually, village, school, dream, window, confection, soldier, whisper, protect, understand, glorious, children, ditch, precious, squeeze, flutter, iris, shabby, *allegiance

MATH- We reviewed prime and composite numbers and multiples this week.  We also learned the words sequence, pattern unit, and terms this week.  We learned how to generate a pattern sequence and how to analyze the features of a pattern.

SOCIAL STUDIES- We worked on maps of the Midwest and West, and read about the Western states.  We also connected our reading story about snakes, with a short study of the snakes of the South west.  We learned about some pretty cool creatures that God has made!

SPECIAL CLASSES

ART- We had some fun drawing a Fall Parade, complete with kids in costumes.  We used oil pastels and a tempera paint “wash” to make fog!

MUSIC- We practiced our songs for the upcoming Veteran’s Day Program.

COMPUTERS/WRITERS’ WORKSHOP- We worked on publishing our personal narratives, and advancing on Typing.com.

P.E.-We played Dr. Dodgeball and played outside.

Have a wonderful weekend!
