It's been a GREAT week! :)

Hi, 4th Grade Parents!  It is has been a very BUSY week, but a fun one!

Our VETERANS DAY program was beautiful and wonderful, and such a special tribute to our veterans.  THANK YOU to all who have served.  We are blessed beyond measure to have you protecting us.

We hosted CHAPEL on Wednesday and I believe it went off without a hitch!  They rain came just in time for our Object Lesson!  ;)  The kiddos presented our message about being content and all of them witnessed their faith to their peers.  I was so very proud!

Please turn in your box anytime between now and November 22nd at noon.  There are labels inside each shoe box for you to attach to the outside of your box.  If you would like to fill more than one, any shoe box will do!  THANK YOU for loving our neighbors and helping spread the Good News of Jesus with kids all around the world!  Please see this website for more information:  https://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child?utm_source=Ggl&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=m_YGOC-B24V&utm_content=Pack_A_Shoebox&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAudG5BhAREiwAWMlSjENK9glPpNWkVow_XbFfbBggx7DpTErl6sZogr1Dxx7YXNhulP20jhoCiWEQAvD_BwE

* NEXT Friday, November 22nd, at 11:00, the 4th graders will have their classroom THANKSGIVING FEAST in lieu of lunch. We will be studying the first Thanksgiving and all about the Pilgrims and Wampanoag. We will also be talking about all the things we, as Christian Americans, should be thankful for! What a wonderful way to praise our Father for all He has given! I will supply the turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy, but if you are willing to send in some “extras” it would be mighty appreciated!  Please take a look at the sign-up if you are able!  (I have several outlets in our classroom for crock pots, if needed.)  Thanks so much for your help!

*We do not have school November 25th-29th.  Teachers have the MO District Teacher’s Conferences the 24th-26th, and then we have Thanksgiving Break!

*Message about our upcoming CHRISTMAS SERVICE--Preparation has begun for our “Sacred Songs of Christmas Service”.  At 6:00 pm on Wednesday, December 18, you will hear “and see” the Nativity Story.  Students will be dressed in attire that fits the telling/singing of God sending us the gift of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Please, stay tuned for what your child will be wearing that night.  We will get that information to you ASAP.  If you have access to costumes or attire that could be used, please, contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. Hatcher.    Thank you for your time.  😊 We are excited to prepare and celebrate. Jesus’ birth with you !

*Mid-Term reports will come home on Monday.  (I have some catching up to do!  Please forgive me.)

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- This week, we continued to talk about the birth of Christ and the visit from the Wisemen.  We also talked about the third commandment:  “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.”  We discussed how we are supposed to set aside time for God, to worship Him, and spend time with Him. We talked about proper ways to worship, and how to act in His house.  We also revisited the story of Mary and Martha, where we are reminded that spending time with Jesus is so much more important than our earthly desires.  We must put Him first.

MEMORY for Next Week: 11/19-THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT

You shall not murder.  What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not hurt or harm our neighbor in his body, but help and support him in every physical need.

11/22-THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT

You shall not commit adultery. What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we lead a pure and decent life in what we say and do, and husband and wife love and honor each other.

LANGUAGE ARTS- We read the chapter book, “Molly’s Pilgrim,”  by Barbara Cohen.  This is a story about an immigrant from Russia, who learns all about the first Thanksgiving and what it means to be an American.  We had a lot of great discussions about our country, and what a blessing it is to be citizens of the United States.  We worked with compare/contrast, predicting, and timelines.

SPELLING WORDS for Friday, November 22nd:  Plymouth, Thanksgiving, praise, compact, Mayflower, pumpkin, barter, America, holiday, settlement, Challenge Word: *conundrum

MATH- We have been learning how to multiply with two and three digit numbers this week.  This is a new skill, so it has taken some practice, but we are getting the hang of it!  We have reviewed long addition and long subtraction, to keep that skill fresh, and have also learned abut input/output boxes.  We are working on our 8’s in mad minutes.

SOCIAL STUDIES- We took our test over the regions this week, and the kiddos did so well!  Graded tests are coming home today.  Next week, we will continue to learn the states.  Students have brought home flash cards to study these, and will test over them next Wednesday.  We will also be studying the first Thanksgiving next week!

SPECIAL CLASSES

ART- We drew pumpkins and the night sky with oil pastels.

MUSIC- We practiced Christmas carols!

COMPUTERS/WRITERS’ WORKSHOP- We played states and capitals games, reviewing what we have been discussing in Social Studies.

P.E.-We began our basketball unit and learned three different types of passing-chest pass, bounce pass, and overhead pass.  We also learned how to dribble.

WRITERS’ WORKSHOP-We wrote about what our families do on Thanksgiving.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kim
