Happy Valentine's Day! :)

Hello, Parents!  This was an odd week of school, but a great one, none the less!   Once again, I am proud of the kiddos and all of their hard work.  They put their “noses to the grindstone” (idiom!!) on Monday and Tuesday to prepare for conferences, and did a GREAT job!

*THANK YOU for your generous donations for LUMA!  Our class took second place in the giving, with 257 items!  Way to go, 4th grade!

*The annual AUCTION, “Aloha Nights,” to support our scholarship fund, will be held February 22nd, 2025.

What time?  6:00-10:00

Where?  The Farmhouse KC

17221 E 32nd St S, Independence, MO 64055

* If you would like to purchase your tickets for the annual event, just go to the home page of our website, www.timothylutheranschool.com, and click on the Aloha Nights graphic. If you have an item, tickets, basket, service, etc. that you would like to donate, please contact the school office. If you or someone you know would like to be an auction sponsor to help defray the costs of the auction, we have various levels and items that can be specifically adopted.

*4th Graders created project that will be auctioned off too!  We studied Psalm 139, focusing primarily on verse 14—“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  your works are wonderful,  I know that full well.”  We discussed how God created each of us with all of our intricate details and how we are beautiful!  We shared the book, “The Best Part of Me,” and have written our own edition of it.  This is “published,” and up for auction!  To go with this theme, we painted the frame of a mirror, emblazoned with the words “fearfully and wonderfully made.”

*SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS- (4th-6th grades) We are headed to the School of Economics on Monday, March 24th, and we are SO excited for this trip!  We will start preparing in the classroom soon!  We will be meeting with the 5th and 6th graders twice a week, (Mondays and Wednesdays), and learning skills such as making a budget, buying supplies, understanding supply/demand, writing checks, selling goods, working cooperatively, HAVING A TON OF FUN, and much more!  It takes a lot of work in class to make this special day flow, and we are getting ready!

We will need some of you to help that day!  We will need between 12-21 parent volunteers for this trip. Parent help is needed ALL DAY, but space is limited, so slots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. They don’t let any other parents in the building that day, except these 12-21 volunteers for our school.  Thank you so much for your help!! These parents will have training at the School of Economics at 8:45, the day of our visit.  We will meet them there, which also means we need some parents that will only be able to drive us there and drop us off.  We will need to leave school no later than 9:10.

Here is the link to sign-up to help: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4DADAB2DA7F58-school

We will also be sending home a paper copy permission slip that all students have to have in order to attend.  These will be in folders today!

Other important information:

-There is not a cost for you, as you paid for this field trip in your enrichment fees this fall.

-Students will NOT need to pack a lunch, as they will be making their own lunches that day.  **If your child has food allergies and would rather bring in their own food out of safety concerns, that is preferred - please speak with your child's teacher.   (Volunteers will be given School of Economics money that day to buy lunch too!)

-Our day ends there at 1:30, so we should return to school about 2:00.

-If you want to help, but all the spots are taken, please contact your child's teacher, and we'll put you on a "will-call" list in the case that another parent has to back out. Thank you in advance for your help!!  Please let me know if you have any questions.

2/21-Be still, and know that I am God.  I will be exalted among the nations.  I will be exalted in the earth! ~Psalm 46: 10

MATH:  We finished up Unit 8, where we worked with equivalent fractions, and finding like denominators to compare fractions.  We will begin Unit 9 next week, where we will be tackling decomposing, adding, and subtracting fractions.

LANGUAGE ARTS: We finished up the book, “Ramona and Her Father,” with a test today.  This week, we discussed cause and effect, finding the main idea, and looking for important quotations.
