*Next Friday, April 11th, is the mid-term.  We will be dismissing at 12:30.

*We will have SNOW MAKE-UP days on April 17th and 21st.  If you already have traveled planned, please just let the office know.  Thank you!

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION: This week, we learned of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem and also reviewed the Second and Third articles of the Apostles Creed.  We discussed how God shows His love for us by giving us a King, the Messiah, who saves us.  We have practiced memorizing the entire 23rd Psalm.

MEMORY: 4/8-Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

4/11-Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. ~Proverbs 3: 5-6

LANGUAGE ARTS: We began reading and learning about the childhood of Harry S. Truman this week.  We have learned a lot of new vocabulary words, and have focused on sequencing and cause and effect.  During class, we have been working in Literature Circles, with each student taking on a different role during discussions.  We shared nonfiction book reports this week too!

Today, each fourth grader received a biography of a famous Missourian.  Your kiddo’s job is to read the biography, take notes about this person, and then, in class, we will begin writing about the person we studied.  This will be our April/May book report and project.  We will create a Biography Lap Book, which we will begin in class, but will need to be finished at home.  They have been given a due date of May 9th.  In the meantime, please help your child come up with a plan to dress up as his or her famous Missourian.  Please use resources you have at home or borrow from a friend.  We will be reciting the facts we have learned about these people, dressed as them, at our Famous Missourian Living Museum on May 14th.  (Think:  Night at the Museum!)  You will get to meet Josephine Baker, George Washington Carver, Dick Van Dyke, Yogi Berra, Harry S. Truman, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Maya Angelou, Molly Brown, Daniel Boone, Mark Twain, Walt Disney, Ulysses S. Grant, and Helen Stephens!  I have some excited kiddos in here!  (Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. In the past, I have had students wear a track uniform for Helen Stephens, bring a bat for Yogi, a suit for Harry Truman, a head scarf for Maya Angelo, a coon skin cap for Daniel Boone, etc.)  😊

SPELLING WORDS for next Friday, April 11th:  (from the book Harry S. Truman: Thirty-Third President of the United States)

MATH: We tested over Chapter 11 and began Chapter 12, where we are learning about decimals and comparing decimals and fractions.

MO HISTORY: We worked on our renewable and non-renewable group projects.  I witnessed a lot of great conversations about our state during this time.
